Anthony that was beautiful. I think you said it all. I cannot see through my tears. Even though Nugget didn't live with me for the last 11 years I still miss him terribly. Nugget ill always have my heart.

That was a wonderful truth about you and nugget. You two had a very special friendship and he loved you so unconditionally. He was part of our family (a BIG part) and we definitely feel the emptiness without him.

He endured a lot from our kids as well. The constant dress ups (poor dog), the laying on him, the teasing with stares or barks. There were so many moments and each one precious.

To my precious nugget, thank you for all the sweet and joyful memories. Thank you for the joy you brought to this house and warmth you put in our hearts. You will NEVER be forgotten but cherished forever. Till we meet again Nugget, take care of everyone in heaven, give them smiles as you have given us. I love and miss you terribly.

Nugget I miss you so much. I wish that you were still here for me to yell get out of the garbage or out of the kitchen when I was in there trying to maneuver around you. I never knew how much I would miss that. We always said you were a stupid dog but truth be told you were smarter than us in many ways. Like how we would say excuse me when you were in our way when you shouldn't be there in the first place. Or how we had to hide things so you wouldn't get them no matter how high we placed it. I will miss the days you would chase me around the house till I stopped and gave you a treat. Or how you would lie in your orange chair and let Alexia lie there with you even though we knew you wanted your space. There will never be another you. For a dog you sure were like family. Plus you never got smart when we had an attitude. You love us more than we ever knew and you will ALWAYS BE LOVED AND MISSED.

Alexia says,
I miss you Nugget and you will be all right there. Nugget I know your gone and I love you so much and I know your my grandpas dog and we love you. Nugget give people smiles you will do all right there I love you Nugget.

Having had to go on a business trip the day after Nugget left us, I only recently am getting back to the day-to-day in the house. Things I miss but never knew I would miss until now:

Getting up at 4AM to let him out
A simple pat before bedtime while he is in his chair
Everyone in the family petting him.
Everyone in the family yelling at him.
Seeing him in his chair before heading upstairs.
Just knowing he is there and I'll see him tomorrow.

Adjusting is hard.

Anthony, what an incredible tribute to your pal. As I read through the list of all the medical procedures and events he beat, I was reminded something my vet said to me as my dog, Hugo, was passing away in my arms. I'd said, "Well, he sure had nine lives." And my vet said, "Yeah, somewhere there's a cat wondering why he's missing a few." It made me chuckle even amidst the tears.
